FAQ’s

1.  Who does SCS hire?

Since we are a Christian school, our policy is to hire only dedicated Christians who love the Lord.  They must wholeheartedly endorse and embrace the principles forming our Mission, Philosophy, Objectives, and Statement of Faith.  Essential character qualities include a love for Jesus and a desire to share Him with others, a caring concern for children, an ability to teach well, a servant’s heart, diligence, and a lot of patience and flexibility.

2.  What type of qualifications must one have to work at SCS?

a.  SCS requires that every teacher possess a clear Christian testimony.

b.  All positions require that a person has a four-year college degree or higher from a recognized college or university.

c.  All teaching positions require that a person either have or be able to obtain a teaching credential.  If a person does not have a teaching credential, he/she may be able to obtain one through AACS.

d.  The potential faculty member must be flexible and adaptable; pursue excellence, a team player, good attitude, able to accept correction, culturally and socially adept, hard worker, diligent, and above all a consistent follower of Christ.

3.  Is this a paid position or will I be required to raise my own support?

This is a paid position and round-trip airfare is provided with a two-year contract, therefore, it is not necessary to raise missionary support.

4.  What is the length for the first-term with Seoul Christian School?

Due to the expense of bringing teachers from the USA and in order to preserve school stability and cohesion, we require an initial two-year commitment minimum.

5.  What about airfare?

Economy class one-way tickets are provided for all new teachers.

Economy class round-trip airfare is provided for teachers who fulfill their two-year commitment. Teachers who do not fulfill their two-year commitment or do not receive a contract for their second year due to poor performance, must pay for their return ticket.

6.  What about housing for SCS teachers?

SCS provides furnished housing for its teachers at a modest rental fee.  All housing is within walking distance of the school.

7.  What about transportation?

Inexpensive bus and subway transportation, within 5 minutes walk from the school, is available and can take you all around the country of Korea.  Therefore, you will not need a car.  The school has a car and van that may be used upon request to go to Costco or the airport.

8.  What about language?

SCS is an English language school that uses Bob Jones University Press textbooks.  All classes are taught in English.  Signs, subways and buses use English as well as Korean.  Each year classes in basic Korean are provided for SCS teachers by various Seoul Bible Church members.  You can get along in Korea with this basic knowledge of Korean.
